Some Popular Types of Yoga Mat
Foam
These yoga mats are cheap and durable, but not very environmentally friendly which puts many off purchasing
them, preferring a more expensive but greener option.
Rubber
This type of yoga mat is well cushioned and durable, but can sometimes be a bit odorous, especially when new.
Any odorous problems will disappear after a few weeks however, so don't let that put you off too much as these can
be an excellent and endusing choice of mat, especially when made with natural rubber (a green and sustainable
natural product).
Natural Fibre
The Natural Fibre Yoga Mat comes in a wide variety of colours , but can be slippy on some surfaces so be
careful. They do soak up sweat however, which can also be helpful in strenuous workouts, and most can be easily
washed.
Jute & Cork
Affordable, eco-friendly alternatives to synthetic yoga mats, but it is good to be aware that the porus material
can become a bit odorous and weak with continued use.
Astanga
Tightly woven and with extra cushioning for seated positions, these are excellent mats for strenuous
workouts.
Universal
A favourite of many instructors and students, universla mats are aimed as a great all round mat for use by
beginners and experts alike.
Travel
Travel yoga mats are lightweight portable mats for travel use. As with all yoga mats, these are often used
together with a yoga mat bag (a selection of yoga mat bags are also avialable in the yogamat.co.uk shop).
